A LIFE WRAPPED IN EASE

“Whirling around me all day,
You echo in
The core of my being.”
This opening three-line stanza in the title poem of Aminur Rahman’s new collection successfully encapsulates the depth of emotion the poet has woven through the entire book, starting as it means to go on in a vital and focussed way. Aminur Rahman has a well-deserved reputation as one of Bangladesh’s most prominent modern poets, both in his homeland and internationally. He writes in Bangla, and this new dual-language volume ‘A Life Wrapped in Ease’ will assuredly consolidate that reputation to bring him new, increasing and more appreciative audiences.
Each of the 34 poems in the collection is presented both in English and Spanish, with a central theme of love, longing, romance, relationships and despair of their ending, with the sub-themes of life and creativity also being touched on. Defying its title, the collection often takes the reader out of their emotional comfort zone, bravely exploring these themes in a range of sensual and erotic images.
From the opening clutch of seven short love poems, Rahman is determined to stamp the reader’s eyes and mind with beautiful, bejewelled images of love’s condition – the quiet desperation, heady bliss, and the heart-wrenching and all-consuming power of love. They are gem-stone poems written by someone who has been there a thousand times, moving in and out of sensuality with ease, and acknowledging the power love has to strengthen and change one’s life.
The love he writes about is both earthly and celestial, going beyond the usual, and grasping the invisible. His love is voluptuous and earthy, carving words as keenly as a sculptor bringing his Galatea to life, making the reader aware of each lush stroke of the metaphorical pen on the page of poetical description.
The collection also moves to a different kind of love, reading like a despairing analysis of broken relationships, where the writer has endured so much heartache he has become numb to it. Here the lover/partner has become a stranger, aloof and silent, suffering the disconnection of a ruptured relationship with many readers should relate to.
Throughout, Rahman reinforces the perpetual diary of his life with passionate references explain the all-encompassing nature of his emotions. Again and again, he returns to the chore theme, poignantly articulated, longed for, and achingly remembered, where each touch and scent is a plangent note in the music of love’s symphony – not a life wrapped in ease after all, but one where love is the central animus of his life.
The collection maintains a clear poetic integrity and robust-word power that both writers and lovers of written and spoken word will appreciate. “A Life Wrapped in Ease” has much to engage the reader; it is a comprehensive exploration of the highs and lows of love and the human condition. It offers much to the poetry love, paving the way for a greater appreciation of Bangladesh’s modern poetry and poets. Most particularly it will underline Rahman’s talent as a writer, rejoicing in his distinctive word-power and talent, digging deep into the heart of the heart.

El verso de tres-líneas en la apertura del poema que titula la nueva colección de Aminur Rahman encapsula exitosamente la profundidad de la emoción que el poeta ha tejido a través del libro, iniciando con lo que simboliza continuar de manera vital y encauzada. Aminur Rahman tiene merecida reputación como uno de los poetas modernos más prominentes de Bangladesh y del extranjero. Escribe en bengalí y este nuevo volumen en dos idiomas, "Una Vida Contenida en Armonía", seguramente consolidará esa reputación para atraerle una nueva, creciente y apreciativa audiencia.
Cada uno de los treinta cuatro poemas de la colección se presenta en inglés y español, con tema central del amor, anhelo, romance, relaciones y el afligido desenlace; igualmente quedan plasmadas la vida y la creatividad como subtemas. En su totalidad, Rahman refuerza el diario perpetuo de su vida con apasionadas referencias que explican la abarcadora naturaleza de sus emociones. Una y otra vez, regresa al tema central, conmovedoramente articulado, anhelado y recordado lastimosamente, donde cada toque y aroma es una nota plañida en la música de la Sinfonía del amor – no una vida envuelta en armonía después de todo, sino una donde el amor es el hálito central de su vida.
La colección mantiene clara integridad poética y un robusto poderío de la palabra que tanto los escritores como los amantes de la palabra escrita y hablada apreciarán. "Una Vida Contenida en Armonía” puede involucrar plenamente al lector; es una exhaustiva exploración de las altas y bajas del amor y la condición humana. Ofrece mucho a la poesía de amor, allanando el camino para una mayor apreciación de la poesía moderna de Bangladesh y los poetas.
